first_imgThe important local assistance provided by the Donegal Volunteer Centre is to get a government funding support of €129,800, it was announced today. Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development, Seán Kyne TD has today approved an allocation of €3.5 million to support volunteering across the country.Donegal TD Joe McHugh has welcomed the provision of funding for the Donegal centre, saying: “Donegal Volunteer Centre plays a vital role in enabling volunteering locally, allowing them to give back to the community. “The Centre publicises opportunities and facilitates volunteers who want to feel connected to their community. It helps foster a sense of involvement and promotes good citizenship. Since 2008 they have helped 2,500 people to volunteer across a range of areas in Donegal.“Donegal Volunteer Centre provides good practice in volunteering and is a major asset to our county and our community. This funding of €129,800 will help them continue their incredible work in 2018.”Minister Seán Kyne said “Volunteering positively impacts every community across every city and county in Ireland with people contributing on a regular basis in all sorts of ways. Many organisations, projects and initiatives depend on volunteers to continue to make a difference.“I am also pleased to be able to approve an increase allocation of core funding for Volunteer Ireland bringing the total to €351,800. “Volunteer Ireland provides a number of important supports to volunteer centres including the I-VOL national volunteering database.
