Are you ready to rumble? Coming soon to knock out prostate cancer is boxing legend and five-time heavyweight champion of the world, Evander Holyfield.Since his retirement from boxing in 2011, Holyfield has dedicated his time to philanthropic activities through Team Holyfield, and will be featured in a public service announcement for the Prostate Cancer Foundation that encourages African-American men to get regularly checked for prostate cancer. Providence-based multi-disciplinary brand culture and communications firm (add)ventures will direct, film and edit the public service announcement – donating a significant portion of the public service announcement’s production costs. Holyfield is donating his time on the public service announcement – an endeavor that marks his commitment to serving as a goodwill ambassador for the Prostate Cancer Foundation. The public service announcement, which will be filmed on May 28 at a location to be announced, will feature Holyfield in his natural element – the boxing ring – as he tells his story of perseverance in the ring and in life. The piece will showcase that while strength, speed and stamina can be drawn upon to beat an opponent in the ring, other resources must be used when fighting an unseen force like prostate cancer – an opponent that could wind up causing a fight for life. The public service announcement will include a message from Holyfield that encourages African-American men to get checked for prostate cancer and directs them to www.pcf.org, the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s website.Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer among men, affecting a staggering one in seven men in the United States. Studies point to several factors that could influence an individual’s chance of developing prostate cancer including age, race and family history. Among the reasons that prompted Team Holyfield to champion prostate cancer awareness is the fact that African-American men are 1.6 times more likely to develop prostate cancer than Caucasian men, and 2.4 times more likely to die from the disease.“When prostate cancer is detected early enough, it is 100 percent treatable,” said Barbara J. Parsky, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of the Prostate Cancer Foundation. “Getting regularly checked for prostate cancer is a surefire way to detect it early enough to offer all men more treatment options with potentially fewer side effects than if prostate cancer remains undetected or found at a later stage. We can’t thank Evander enough for lending his voice, influence and passion to raise awareness about this disease and the benefit of early detection.”Since hanging up his gloves in 2011, Holyfield has dedicated himself to doing service-based work that reflects his values and strong faith, which led him to establish Team Holyfield. Team Holyfield’s mission is to create and sustain relationships with individuals, companies and organizations that support altruism, community relations and humanitarian efforts and reflects Holyfield’s core values of “faith, family, foundation and future.” Holyfield is particularly interested in supporting initiatives that affect the African-American community. Prostate cancer is one such initiative.“We want to tell people to spread the word and encourage their fathers, brothers, sons and friends to get checked for prostate cancer,” said Holyfield. “This is an issue that affects all men and is in line with our mission to partner with incredible organizations and invest in their important work. I’m honored to go the distance for the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Together, we can spread the word and hopefully knock out prostate cancer for good.”Upon learning of Team Holyfield’s interest in the cause, (add)ventures President and CEO Steve Rosa conceptualized a national awareness campaign around prostate cancer with the donation of (add)ventures’ public service announcement effort as part of his firm’s corporate philanthropy program – (add)love.“I grew up diagonally across the street from live boxing at Manny Almeida’s Ringside Tap in Fox Point so I know Providence’s rich boxing tradition well,” said Rosa. “I remember the stories of champions like Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano coming to my neighborhood so it makes me proud to bring another legendary champion to Providence – especially for such an important cause. Evander Holyfield is truly ‘The Real Deal’ in the ring and in life. Prostate cancer has attacked family and friends alike. I was happy to have our firm join Team Holyfield and the Prostate Cancer Foundation in this fight. Any fight is winnable with a champ like Evander in your corner.”

New Delhi: The Congress will fight the general election in Uttar Pradesh on its own strength, party’s west UP incharge Jyotiraditya Scindia said Saturday, asserting the path of his party may be different from that of the SP and the BSP but their objective is the same. Scindia also said that as far as talks for alliances are concerned, “like-minded parties should also think in a like-minded way”. The AICC general secretary incharge UP west’s remarks assume significance as they come amid reports that there may be a rethink on the grand alliance in Uttar Pradesh to include the Congress. On Akhilesh Yadav’s remarks that the Congress was very much in the Samajwadi Party-Bahujan Samaj Party-Rashtriya Lok Dal alliance and two seats were being left for it, Scindia said, “If this is his thinking, then we may also leave 2-3 seats for them.” “The current situation is that the SP and the BSP have taken a decision that they want to walk on a different path with the same objective that the Congress has. Our paths can be different, but the objective is the same,” he said. Also Read – Encounter under way in Pulwama, militant killed Scindia asserted that the Congress wants to have a UPA government at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh it was determined to come back to power by 2022. “We have said time and again that our objective is the same that UPA government must be formed at the Centre. In Uttar Pradesh, the Congress is going to fight this election on its own strength,” Scindia told reporters here. “We believe that be it BSP or SP, they have taken a decision and we respect that decision. They have the right to choose their path. They have chosen their path and the Congress is going to fight this election on its own strength,” he said. Asked about whether talks should be held to bring like-minded parties together, he said dialogue should take place but it should be from both sides. “We are going to establish the Congress strongly on the ground in UP. And we are moving in that direction,” he said. On leaders in UP like Savitri Bai Phule joining the Congress, Scindia said the party’s doors are open for those who have strength on the ground, want to serve the people and are committed to form a new Uttar Pradesh. Interestingly, both the Congress and the SP have announced their first list of candidates for some seats in UP. The Congress on Thursday announced 11 candidates for the electorally crucial state of the UP, fielding UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi from Raebareli and party president Rahul Gandhi from Amethi. Former Union ministers Salman Khurshid, Jitin Prasad and R P N Singh have been fielded from their traditional seats of Farrukhabad, Dhaurahra and Kushi Nagar respectively. The Samajwadi Party on Friday released its first list of nine candidates for the Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh, fielding party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav from its stronghold Mainpuri. Uttar Pradesh has 80 Lok Sabha seats out of which the Congress had won just two (Amethi and Raebareli) in 2014. BSP chief Mayawati and SP’s Akhilesh Yadav had jointly announced their alliance in January. On Tuesday, Yadav, at a press conference in Lucknow with RLD’s Jayant Chaudhary, had said the Rashtriya Lok Dal will contest three Lok Sabha seats as part of an alliance with the SP and the BSP.
By Zakaria WadghiriRabat – A number of activists of the Amazigh (Berber) movement in Morocco are demanding that Yennayer, the Amazigh New Year’s Day, become a national and public holiday.Such calls have increased since Algeria made January 12 a national and public holiday for the first time last year.Moroccans will celebrate the Amazigh New Year 2969, known as Yennayer in Tamazight (Berber), on January 12.The Amazigh youth organization Tamesna will organize demonstrations outside Parliament in Rabat on Yennayer for the sixth year in a row.Tamesna Coordinator Adil Adaskou told Morocco World News (MWN) that the demonstrators intend to commemorate the popular holiday and to remind Morocco of the Amazigh people’s legitimate claims—the official recognition of Yennayer as a national public holiday. Amazigh activist Mounir Kejji told MWN that the celebration is not new and neither are the demands. “There are celebrations in urban, rural and diaspora communities.”“Morocco should learn from Algeria now. Even their schools are celebrating.” Kejji added that raising awareness is important especially since the successive governments have not met the demands.Read Also: Moroccan Journalist Asks King Mohammed VI to Recognize Amazigh New Year as Public HolidayHe continued, “The fact that all organic laws from the 2011 constitution were passed except the ones regarding the officialization of Amazigh and establishing the Languages and Culture National Council shows a lack of political will. The struggle continues for this recognition.”In December, Amina Ben Sheikh addressed a message to King Mohammed VI calling for the recognition of the Amazigh New Year as a public holiday. In her message, Ben Sheikh said that “recognizing the Amazigh New Year as an official national holiday side by side with the other national holidays would restore the spirit and philosophy of the Constitution.” She also recalled the monarch’s speech on October 17, 2001, in which he said that the “integration of Tamazight is a national responsibility, for no culture can deny its roots. From these roots, [Morocco] must embrace openness and reject close-mindedness in order to thrive and develop.”It remains to be seen whether the Moroccan government will meet the demands of Amazigh activists.
