While the 2016 election continues to heat up, President Barack Obama continues to be nothing but cool. After POTUS released two personally-curated summer playlists earlier this month, the White House’s website has announced a one-day music and arts festival to be held at the President’s house, cleverly dubbed South By South Lawn. Inspired by his trip to speak at this year’s South By Southwest conference and festival in Austin, TX, Obama and his team will bring together creators, innovators, and organizers from around the country and the world on October 3rd for a day of film, music, and interactive exhibits and panel discussions. Artists for the event have yet to be announced. As the President said in Selma, “It is you, the young and fearless at heart, the most diverse and educated generation in our history, who the nation is waiting to follow.” In that spirit, South by South Lawn will challenge young leaders to build on our progress toward an America that is more tolerant, fair, and full of opportunities.Tickets will not be sold for the event. Rather, attendees will be chosen via nomination by their peers. The nomination form reads: “Know somebody creating change — big or small — in your community? We’re inviting you to nominate yourself or somebody you know to attend.” Submissions are due by September 10th at 5pm Eastern Time. You can submit a nomination here.
