CONFIRMED: Burnley make Iceland Euro 2016 star their first summer signing

first_img Johann Berg Gudmundsson in action for Iceland against France at Euro 2016 1 Burnley have made Icelandic midfielder Johann Berg Gudmundsson their first summer signing.As talkSPORT reported on Monday, the Clarets agreed a fee of £2.5m with Charlton for the 25-year-old earlier this month.The Premier League side were waiting on Gudmundsson to return to England to finalise the deal after he took a short break following Iceland’s Euro 2016 exploits.He has now penned a three-year deal at Turf Moor with the option of a further year.Gudmundsson made 81 appearances for Charlton, scoring 16 goals, after joining them from AZ Alkmaar in 2014.He was a key part of the Iceland side which enjoyed a sensational run at Euro 2016, starting every game as they reached the quarter-finals of the competition.Burnley boss Dyche said: “Johann, we feel, is a quality player who we saw last season playing at Charlton in a tough time and we liked the quality he showed.“It helps to see a player in the European Championships with that kind of company and he did well there so it was one we all agreed would be a good acquisition for the club and we look forward to working with him going forward.”Gudmundsson is set to be followed from The Valley to Turf Moor by Nick Pope.Charlton accepted an offer of around £1million from Burnley for the goalkeeper late last week and the 24-year-old has undergone a medical.last_img read more
